After 55 years of waiting, reunion of mother and daughter will be portrayed in a book about faith in Juruá

One of the most moving reports of the faith lived in the Juruá Valley has just gained prominence and will be eternalized on the pages of the book “Historical Rescue of Juruá”, currently under production. At 78, retired Maria Eunice Ferreira da Silva keeps with emotion what she calls one of the greatest miracles of her life: the reunion with her daughter Maria do Socorro da Silva de Oliveira, missing for over five decades.

The case draws attention not only for the long wait, but for the devotion of Maria Eunice to the missionary and prophet José da Cruz, to whom she attributes the miracle. “I never stopped praying for my daughter. I asked Missionary José da Cruz a lot to help me. And he helped. My daughter came home,” says excitedly.

Born on September 21, 1945, in the Juruá Mirim River Syringe, in Cruzeiro do Sul, at the time still Federal Territory of Acre, Maria Eunice comes from a family of rubber tappers and farmers. She says that for more than 55 years she lived without any news of her daughter, but always kept the hope of a reunion. About three years ago, the daughter finally returned to the city, surprising the community and thrilling family and neighbors.

In addition to this striking story, Maria Eunice shares other experiences she considers miraculous involving the missionary. One of the most remembered episodes she happened during one of her preaching:

“Time closed, it seemed like a flood came. We was afraid and asked if the rain was going to disturb. He raised his hands, asked everyone to go down his head and, when we looked, the sky was clean again,” he says.

These testimonies of faith, hope and devotion will be part of the book “Historical Rescue of Juruá”, which aims to preserve the spiritual, cultural and religious memory of the region. The work will bring together stories of people who, like Maria Eunice, found in faith a pillar to face time, pain and silence of absence.
