Following the tariff announced by Donald Trump last week, Brazil works with US negotiating scenarios and may request a reduction in rates from 50% to 30%, according to CNN columnist Gustavo Uribe.

Another scenario would be a request to postpone the imposition of the new tariff, which would come into force from August 1, for 60 or 90 days. In addition, it can propose the creation of export quotas for at least coffee and orange.

In reserved conversations, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) would have instructed the government ministerial team that negotiations with the United States must be guided by “firmness” and “sobriety”.

The petista also evaluated that, by the history of negotiations, President Donald Trump only respects a firm negotiator.

For this reason, Brazilian diplomacy and the business segment must maintain defense stance of the country, without giving criticism from American negotiators, says CNN.
