A gunman killed two women in a church in the US state of Kentucky and shot and injured a state policeman near an airport on Sunday (13), before police shot him, authorities said.
The women were killed at the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington. Two men were also injured, including one critical condition, Lexington police chief Lawrence Weathers said at a press conference.
The authorities did not disclose the name or age of the suspect.

“There are days like today that they are extremely difficult,” said Weathers. “Sometimes things happen, you just don’t have a reason.”
The suspect shot the police after being stopped near Blue Grass airport around 11:30 am (local time) in Fayette County, Weathers said. The shot attack happened on a road surrounding the airport, but was not connected to its operations, police said.
The policeman was being treated in a nearby hospital and his health was stable.

The suspect then stole a vehicle and fled to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he began to shoot people on the grounds of the church.
Police tracked the location of the stolen vehicle to the church.
The police chief had no reason to gunfire, but said there was evidence that the suspect could meet some of the people in the church.
