When the tropical heat strikes, many dogs think how to relieve their furry. While we can indulge in a cold shower or go to an air -conditioned room, our dog partners do not have so many options. High temperatures give them a hard time – breathing faster, they are small and resting more often. Yet it does not mean that they have to be bored all day. Even in the heat you can experience a lot of fun with the dog, just wants to know what is good for him and what is already dangerous.
Summer is time of trips, long walks and stay outdoors. But when the mercury of the thermometer climbs over thirty, an ordinary walk is getting a problem. Dogs, especially the smaller, older or long -haired, are hot to endure much worse than we do. They may be sick, there is a risk of overheating or burns of paws. But that does not mean that they should just roll in the shade for days. You can also do a lot of fun and safe things with the dog – it just takes a little different approach.

Morning and evening walks
The basis is to adapt to the rhythm of the weather. Hot around noon is not suitable for people, let alone dogs. For longer walks, go early in the morning or in the eveningwhen the air is colder and the sidewalks are no longer so hot. Avoid asphalt that can burn the dog’s paws – ideal are forest roads, parks or shady routes along the water.
“Dogs are cooling through breathing with open mouth, sweating only with paws and are very susceptible to sunburn. Keep the dog in the shade, ensure a constant approach to cold, fresh water and walk it early in the morning or evening when it is colder,” says the veterinarian. Joanna Woodnutt.
Dog -refreshment in the garden
If you have a garden or backyard, you can create a small water oasis. Just or a plastic bath filled with water. Some dogs jump into it joyfully, others just wet their paws. You can throw a few toys or treats that they will hunt – they will cool down and enjoy fun. If you have enough space, try to build a simple sun shelter or hang a wet sheet that works as a natural air conditioning.

Playing inside
It is usually not a suitable time to act active outdoors during the day. Instead, you can entertain the dog at home – searching for treats, dragging with a toy or finding a “treasure” in an old towel are ideal games in the living room. They keep the dog fit, but without overheating. There are also interactive toys that the dog employ and stimulate its brain – These will be appreciated mainly by intelligent breeds.
A trip by car? Just with air conditioning
Are you going on a trip? Do not forget that the dog should never stay alone in the car or for a short while. The temperature inside the car can climb to fatal values within minutes. So if you are driving a furry, it must be pleasantly cold in the car, ideally with air conditioning, and at hand enough water. Stop at peeing and relaxation are a matter of course.
Ice cream for dogs? Why not
Like us, dogs love cold goodies. But beware, human ice cream is not suitable for them, contains sugar, milk and often dangerous chocolate. Instead You can make a simple dog ice cream at homefor example, frozen broth in bowls, pumpkin puree, banana mixed with yoghurt or ice cubes with pieces of treats. You will make the dog very happy – and you can cool it.
So summer can be a beautiful period for dogs, if we do not forget them and adapt the program to their needs. Just a few modifications and your furry will enjoy hot days just like you – only without the risk of sunburn, burns or nausea. And as a bonus you will get a lot of common experiences that are not forgotten.
