International Year of Cooperatives is celebrated in a solemn session at the Acre Legislative Assembly

The Legislative Assembly of the State of Acre (Aleac) held, on Monday (14), a solemn session in honor of the International Year of Cooperatives-AIC 2025, instituted by the United Nations (UN) and coordinated globally by the International Cooperative Alliance (ACI). The ceremony was proposed by state deputy Pedro Longo, president of the Parliamentary Front of Support for Cooperativism in Aleac, composed of 20 of the 24 parliamentarians of the house – which reinforces the strategic importance of cooperativism for regional development.

Under the motto “Cooperatives: Promoting inclusive and sustainable solutions for a better world”, the Global AIC 2025 recognizes the role of cooperatives in the construction of a more human, solidarity and resilient economy. The initiative celebrates the contributions of the cooperative model to income generation, productive inclusion, social justice and environmental sustainability.

“This House recognizes the importance of cooperativism, cooperatives and their cooperatives for the development of our state. Therefore, we proposed this solemn session: to highlight its relevance and draw the attention of society to this business model that already benefits so many families in Acre. As president of Frencoop, I thank all parliamentarians who make up this support front, the OCB system in the person of President Valdemiro. Count on this parliament, ”said Deputy Pedro Longo.

OCB/Sescoop-AC System

The OCB system is formed by the organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) and the National Cooperative Learning Service (Sescoop). In Acre, the performance is integrated, involving political representation, training of members and institutional strengthening of cooperatives of various branches – such as agriculture, extractivism, credit, health, transportation, work, production and agriculture.

For the president of the OCB/Sescoop-AC System, Manoel Valdemiro Francalino da Rocha, the tribute represents a recognition to the transforming force of cooperativism in the state.

“Acre cooperatives have shown, with serious work and social commitment, their importance for the development of communities and for the construction of a fairer and more solidarity economy. This tribute strengthens cooperativism as a model of sustainable development and strategy for a prosperous future,” he said.

At the time, Valdemiro thanked Aleac for the recognition, the institutional partners present and launched an appeal to the State Government for the formulation of public policies that strengthen the cooperative sector.

The solemn session in Aleac follows a national movement of appreciation of cooperativism. On July 8, the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia also promoted a special session alluding to AIC 2025, at the initiative of the Parliamentary Front of Cooperativism (Frencoop), reaffirming the sector’s prestige in the Brazilian political scenario.

Present at the ceremony, Senator Sérgio Petecão reiterated the commitment of his mandate to cooperativism and guaranteed the destination of parliamentary amendments to strengthen various branches in Acre.

“I am enthusiastic about the cooperative model. I have supported family farming and agricultural branch, but we need to sensitize all parliamentarians to allocate resources for cooperativism. This sector mobilizes the economy and generates work and income for many families,” said the senator.

Representing the Acre State Court of Auditors (TCE-AC), vice president and counselor Ronald Polanco also reinforced the importance of the model:

“I see cooperativism as the only viable model to ensure social and economic development fairly. I have followed its evolution in various parts of the world and, in Acre, it needs the support of all public and private institutions to consolidate and grow,” he said.
