A family tragedy that occurred in Cataguases (MG) is being investigated by the Civil Police after the death of a 61 -year -old, identified as a possible person in a case of poisoning that left the 51 -year -old husband, and the 6 -year -old stepson in serious condition.

The case came to light on Sunday afternoon (13), when the father took his son to the hospital in critical condition, with cardiorespiratory arrest. The child, who spent the weekend at his father’s house, was admitted to the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Cataguases, where he remains in a coma. Shortly thereafter, the man also entered the hospital with seizures, being hospitalized in serious condition.
The suspicion of the police is that the food consumed by the family specifically the beans served during a meal was contaminated with some toxic substance. Food, as well as other residence items, was collected for expert analysis.
The death of the elderly was confirmed on Monday (14). According to one of her children to the Military Police, he was informed by a neighbor about the situation of the stepfather and the boy. Upon arriving home, he found his mother unconscious. The body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) for examinations that must clarify the cause of death.
During the on -site skill, the Civil Police collected vials with unusual color liquids, foods, sharp and cellular objects – one of them partially burned – as well as a bean sample served to the family.
The initial line of investigation points to a poisoning followed by suicide, but other possibilities are not discarded. The case was referred to the Cataguases Police Station and is under the responsibility of Delegate Conrado Rodrigues Guedes, who coordinates the investigation work.
Authorities await the expert report to confirm the substance used and understand the details surrounding the episode.
