North Korea offers “unconditional” support to Russia

Alongside Russian Chancellor Sergei Lavrov, Kim Jong-un expressed “firm conviction” that Putin’s army will overcome Ukraine

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that Pyongyang is ready to support Moscow’s actions in the war against Ukraine. The statement was made on Sunday (13.Jul.2025), during the 3 -day visit of the Russian diplomat to North Korea, where they were held.

During the meeting in the coastal city of Wonsan, Kim reaffirmed the North Korean commitment to Russia in the Ukrainian conflict. “Kim Jong-un reaffirmed that the RPDC (Democratic Popular Republic of Korea) is ready to support and unconditionally encourage all measures taken by Russian leadership as to the confrontation of the fundamental causes of the Ukrainian crisis”, Reported the KCNA (Central Agency of Korea News), quoted by

The North Korean leader expressed his “Firm conviction that the army and the Russian people will certainly reach the victory in the realization of the sacred cause of defending the dignity and basic interests of the country”.

Lavrov’s visit is made at a time of strengthening relations between the 2 countries, which signed a partnership treaty in June 2024. The agreement includes a mutual defense pact.

Relations between Russia and North Korea have intensified since February 2022. Pyongyang sent more than 10,000 soldiers and weapons to support Moscow in the conflict.

Russia has announced that it will start flights twice a week between Moscow and Pyongyang. Lavrov transmitted to Kim that Russian President Vladimir Putin, “Wait for continuous direct contacts in the very near future”According to the Russian news agency (TASS).
