The interdictions to the beaches of Seixal and Barreiro, following a fuel stroke, were raised on Saturday, after the waters were considered free of harmful substances to health, the two municipalities of the Setúbal district reported.
The Seixal Chamber announced, on Sunday, the survey of the interdiction that Since the beginning of the month on the beaches of Velha, Boats and Seixalfollowing a focus of pollution resulting from a Fuel stroke during a refueling operation at the Lisbon Multi -Plade Terminal (TML)in Santa Apolónia, in Lisbon.
According to the municipality, a notice issued by the captaincy of the port of Lisbon confirms that the analyzes carried out, in articulation with the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Regional Health Directorate of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, “They do not evidence the presence in water from harmful substances for public health.”
Thus, interdictions were raised in access to these beaches, as well as the practice of playful and sports activities, even if the monitoring and surveillance of the areas affected by the stroke is maintained, a notice issued by the Seixal Chamber.
In the same notice the captaincy of the port of Lisbon raised the restrictions that were in force on the river beaches of Barreiro, after during the early hours of July 3 the stroke hit this area, as the municipality at the time reported in a publication on its Facebook page.
In the same publication, the municipality reported that in these river beaches, the same access restrictions determined by the maritime authority to the Seixal zone “and that the citizens should not enter the water or circulate in the affected areas.
In a new publication, on Saturday, the Chamber of Barreiro gave a note of the end of restrictions And he said that, as in Seixal, the zone will continue to be monitored.
On Wednesday, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) detected in the area of the seixal zone debris resulting from the fuel strokehaving restricted the population’s access to the areas where the pollutant in water or sand is visible.
According to AMN, a focus of pollution was detected on July 1 and the elements of the captaincy, in collaboration with those of the port authority, contained the polluting product, and the possible measures were taken to mitigate the effects of the stroke.
The Maritime Police collected the samples of polluting material to preserve the proof and subsequent procedural instruction, delivered to the reference laboratory of the environment of the Portuguese Environment Agency.
Authorities raised the red flag on the beaches of the old, boats, Seixal and Ponta dos Crossos and, on the 3rd, extended the restrictions on the beaches of Barreiro.
The red flag indicates a total ban on getting into the water due to risk conditions, and is a warning sign for bathers, indicating that the area should not be used for baths.
