The Operational Center of the Emergency Medical Service (OZ ZZS) SR registers from 1 April to 10 July a total of 15 melting cases throughout the territory of the Slovak Republic. Of these, three events ended in death. Rescuers have transported a total of 11 patients to the hospital for the period, one person refused to transport. The ZZS OS informed about it on the social network.
“During last summer holidays from 1 July 2024 to 31 August 2024, a total of ten cases of melting are recorded within the whole territory of the Slovak Republic in children, minors and adolescents under 18 years, of which three events ended in death,” added the operating center.
The ZZS OS recommends not to overestimate its forces when bathing and to visit only the health -compliant water surfaces, preferably under the supervision of a lifeguard. It also advises not to drink alcohol when bathing or swimming and not entering water with open wounds, infectious disease or fever. “Enter the water slowly to avoid temperature shock,” the rescuers added.
According to them, small children should not be forgotten to safety protective features such as sleeves or vest. “Do not start them for a second of your eyes. A small child can drown even in shallow water, not even in a minute. The melting is fast and quiet,” warned the axis of ZZS.
