São Paulo records 47 bus attacks in a single day

The city of registered 47 vandalism attacks against public transport buses only last Sunday (14). The number, released by the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Mobility and by the second day with the highest number of depredations in about a month, behind only July 7, when 59 collectives were damaged. The wave of attacks, which started around June 12, already has 421 vehicles deprecated in the capital. Including Greater São Paulo and Baixada Santista, the total number rises to 600 buses. The large volume of attacks on Sunday draws attention, as it occurs the day the fare is free, increasing the flow of passengers.

The Civil Police investigates the cases and investigates different lines of motivation, including actions coordinated by social networks, involvement of criminal organizations and union disputes between drivers and collectors. So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the attacks. Police have intensified operations at places and strategic times to curb new actions. SPTrans advised the concessionaires to immediately remove any damaged vehicle, register a police report and provide replacement so as not to impair passengers. Failure to comply with the measure may lead to fines to companies.
