Storms caused flooding and led the state of New Jersey to decree emergency on Monday (14). New York has also been strongly affected, with subway stoppages, road interruptions and flights canceled at major airports in the region.
The emergency alert was issued by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy after heavy rains hit the state and cause sudden floods, especially in Union County. The authorities’ orientation was clear: avoid unnecessary displacements and stay in safe places.
In New York, all five districts entered the flood alert. The city guided residents of underground apartments to prepare to evacuate, especially at dawn. “Be alert. Floods can occur little or no in advance,” warned NYC Emergency Management.

The rains flooded streets, houses and trades. In New Jersey, videos on social networks showed people walking with water to their knees in New Providence, about 16 kilometers from Newark.
The transport infrastructure was strongly impacted. At Laguardia and Newark airports, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) decreed flight stoppage early in the evening. JFK also recorded delays and warned of possible impacts. According to Flightware, the three airports led the number of cancellations on Monday.

In Manhattan, lines 1, 2 and 3 of the subway were suspended, and the trains and, m and r suffered great interruptions. Staten Island Railway interrupted both ways in the southern part of the island. In the Westchester region, the county reported several rescues of drivers stuck in submerged vehicles.

The Cross Bronx, Harlem River Drive, FDR Drive and Bronx River Parkway were closed or registered congestion due to water accumulation. Inside the state, streets in Valhalla and Elmsford turned into rivers, and a house exploded into North Plainfield amid rescue operations.
In commerce, the damage was also felt. In Roselle Park, water between 15 and 30 centimeters invaded Dowling’s Irish Pub. “Unfortunately, we were hit again,” Russell Olden owner told CBS, recalling the impact of the drill on 2021.
Despite the intensity of the rains, there are no records of deaths so far. The National Meteorology Service reported that storms began to lose strength around 10 pm, but warned that the risk of new floods would remain until the end of the night.
