Coping with the past in Ireland: Since the beginning of this week, an international team of experts has been making excavations on the edge of the small town of Tuam in the Galway district of Westir. The bones of around 800 infants and children are suspected under an inconspicuous piece of lawn in the Irish small town. The offspring of unmarried young women in the 20th century were carelessly thrown into an abandoned sewage pit-an expression of disregard that attracted unwanted people in Catholic-theocratic society.
