European Union says 30% of the US is “unacceptable”

European Block works on two fronts: tries to negotiate agreement with Washington or implement proportional contracted until August 1

The EU (European Union) classified as “Absolutely unacceptable” The 30% rate announced by US President Donald Trump (Republican Party) against European products. The bloc ministers of the bloc gathered this Monday (14.Jul.2025) in Brussels (Belgium) to discuss the response to the American announcement.

Tariffs are scheduled to take effect on August 1. The European Union is the largest commercial partner in the United States and the largest commercial block in the world.

The European Commission, which negotiates commercial agreements on behalf of the 27 member countries, postponed its own retaliatory tariffs against US products, which would come into force on Monday (14.Jul.2025).

The block now works on two fronts: it tries to negotiate a trade agreement with Washington by August 1 or will implement proportional contracted.

Bloc’s commercial representative, Maros Sefcovic, has defined that the rates imposed by the United States are “Absolutely unacceptable”.

The new rates will be able to cost various European products such as French cheeses, Italian leather, German electronics and Spanish pharmaceuticals.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said Trump’s letter shows that the parties should negotiate by August 1.
