The Brazilian Gross Domestic Product () had an increase of 0.3% in May before April, driven by the service sector, according to the GDP monitor, determined by the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Ibre/FGV). Compared to May 2024, economic activity expanded 3.9% in the same month of 2025. At the end of the quarter ended in May, the activity had advanced 3%. In 12 months, it reached 3.4%. “The performance of the service sector is primarily responsible for the growth of 0.3% of the economy in May, compared to April, with positive fees in virtually all activities, except for trade,” said Juliana Trece, coordinator of the PIB Monitor – FGV, in an official note. The sector’s advance was 2.1% in the mobile quarter ending in May.

“Despite this growth, the performance of the other two major economic activities, agriculture and industry, recorded a fall in the month.” According to Juliana Trece, resilience was noted in the growth of household consumption, which grew for the fifth consecutive month, advancing 2.1% in the mobile quarter in May and the return on growth in gross fixed capital formation (FBCF), after two straight months of retraction. The FBCF registered a 6.9% increase in the mobile quarter in May.

For the third consecutive month exports grew by around 1%. Imports grew by 5.1%, but are in the trajectory of slowdown in imports, which is mainly explained by reducing the growth rates of capital goods and consumer goods. In monetary terms, it is estimated that the GDP in current values, in accumulated until May 2025, was R $ 5.084 trillion. The investment rate in May was 19.6%. The GDP monitor anticipates the trend of the main index of the economy from the same data sources and methodology employed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), responsible for the official calculation of national accounts.
