The president of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (), Josué Gomes, said on Tuesday (15) that the productive sector maintains absolute confidence in the capacity of and the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) to conduct negotiations with to reverse the tariff increase. The statement was given to the press after the first meeting of the Government’s committee to deal with the crisis.
Josué Gomes also said he had confidence that the historical relationship with the US will not be broken. “We have absolute confidence that the more than 200 years of good diplomatic and commercial relations with the United States and America, which are the largest foreign direct investors in Brazil, will not be to break this way. On the contrary, we will come to an understanding,” he said.
The president of FIESP reiterated that all governors have met with productive sectors to deal with the theme. He said he met with the governor of, also on Tuesday, and that there should be new meetings.
Gomes also assessed that it is not only Brazil that loses with the increase in tariffs imposed by the US, but even the Americans themselves. He said Fiesp endorses all proposals posed by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) on the subject.
Committee
The appointed Interministerial Committee of Economic and Commercial negotiation and countermeasures was made official in the decree regulating the Law of Economic Reciprocity (Law 15.122/25). Tuesday’s meeting was attended by 18 executives from different sectors. A new meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday (16). Still on Tuesday, the committee holds a second meeting when the focus will be agribusiness.
