The number of cough cases in Japan has risen sharply. This year they have already reported more than 43 thousand infected, which is ten times the amount compared to last year.
Since the beginning of the year, almost 44,000 cases have been recorded in Japan. This is more than ten times over the whole year. This stems from preliminary data published on Tuesday by the Institute for Health Security, TASR writes according to DPA report.
According to Kyodo, the number of cord cough cases in Japan continues to rise and cumulatively reached 43,728, while there were approximately 4,000 record records last year.
In Europe, nearly 300,000 people were infected with whooping cough in 2024, which is more than a triple increase compared to the previous year, the Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Hans Kluge, which published the latest data on children’s vaccination rates, said on Tuesday.
The WHO, together with UNICEF, said at least one dose of diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough vaccine was given to 89 percent of children, while 85 percent received all three doses.
The Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic confirmed in mid -May that there was a high incidence of pertussis in Slovakia this year – 3166 cases were reported. However, since April, the ÚVZ SR has registered a gradual decline.
According to the WHO, the whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory release caused by Bordetella Pertussis. It is mainly transmitted from person to person by droplets arising from coughing or sneezing. The disease is most dangerous in infants – it may be fatal in this age group.
