Lusodescendent sentenced to life imprisonment in Luxembourg for terrorism

The Luxembourg City Court on Monday the Lusodescendent Steve Duarte has condemned the life imprisonment for involvement in terrorist activities at the service of the Islamic State Group (IS), according to local press.

According to the Luxemburger Wort, Duarte’s sentence, judged to default and whose whereabouts is unknown, corresponds to the request of the prosecutor, which asked for the maximum penalty.

The newspaper Contact says that Steve Duarte, born in Luxembourg and whose parents are natural from Figueira da Foz, lived in Brito-Ducado until 2014, before joining IS.

Radicalization will have started mainly on the internet, culminating in August 2014, when it left the country to join IS at 27.

Authorities believe that Duarte may be detained by Kurdish forces in a country of the Middle East, according to the same source.

The Public Prosecution Service accused Duarte of being a central figure in the media propaganda of the IS and having participated in executions, being considered at least responsible for the death of five Iraqi Kurds.
