O Mayor of the city of Igarapé Grande, in Maranhão, João Vitor Xavier (PDT), was arrested This Tuesday (15), after shooting the military police Geidson Thiago da Silva Santos, 39 years old. The crime occurred on July 6.
João Vitor surrendered at the headquarters of the Civil Police in the state capital, after the issuance of a warrant of pre -trial detention. In addition to the arrest, search warrants were served at Igarapé Grande City Hall and the mayor’s residence to locate and grasp the crime weapon and objects that can help in the investigation.
According to the PC, after surrendering, the mayor was sent to the IML (Forensic Medical Institute) for examination of a crime. He was then taken to the prison system, where he will undergo a custody hearing.
