Bid for August has the largest offer in history; ANEEL should resume analysis after response from the Ministry of Mines and Energy
A (National Electric Energy Agency) removed from the agenda of its meeting of this Thursday (15.Jul.2025) the deliberation on the Hiring Auction Notice of hydroelectric plants. The reason was the questions of director Fernando Mosna about the values established to hire the projects.
The event (A-5) was designed to meet the requirements of the, which enabled the privatization of Eletrobras and projected the hiring of hydroelectric dams up to 50 MW (Megawatts), with predefined prices. However, these conditions were for the renovation of the Electric Sector Via, issued on Friday (11.Jul.2025).
The new MP aims to limit the effects caused by the presidential vetoes to the legal framework of the offshore wind generation by Congress. The decision contradicted the Planalto Palace and led the Minister of Mines and Energy, (PSD), to review sensitive points of energy policy.
Given the change in the regulatory framework, the rapporteur of the process, director Agnes da Costa, requested clarification from the Ministry. The folder replied that the guidelines and auction system are valid and maintains the intention of holding the dispute.
The publication of the notice was scheduled for July 17. According to Agnes, Aneel can call an extraordinary meeting to resume the analysis of the process. The auction is scheduled for August 22.
The winning projects will be up to 5 years to go into operation, starting on January 1, 2030. Contracts will last 20 years. According to the agency, 241 projects were registered with EPE (Energy Research Company), totaling almost 3 GW (gigawatts) of power, the largest volume of hydroelectric supply in the last events.
