UE threatens to tax airplanes, cars and US beverages if they fail negotiations

This is the second package of Brussels presented to the Member States, after a first in April that was suspended due to negotiations

The European Commission is ready to advance with customs tariffs on 72 billion euros from products imported from the United States if negotiations with Washington Falhem until August.

According to Reuters, Airplanes, machinery, automobiles, chemicals and medical devices are the main great articles in the latest US goods list that the European Commission wants to impose customs rates.

The package is the second to be presented by the European Commission, which supervises the trade policy of the 27 European Union countries, and intends to respond to US tariffs of 25% on cars and car parts, which is currently 10%.

US President Donald Trump now threatens to apply a base rate of 30% to EU imports from 1 August, a level that European employees consider unacceptable and that would end normal trade between two of the world’s largest markets.

The list, sent to the EU Member States and seen by Reuters on Tuesday, covers the imports of US goods in the amount of 72 billion euros and also includes electrical and precision equipment, as well as agricultural and food products – a range of fruits and vegetables, along with wine, beer and witty drinks – in the total value of 6.35 billion euros.

The first 21 billion euros package of American products was approved in April, but immediately suspended until August 6 to allow negotiations between the parties.
