Among former President Jair Bolsonaro’s allies, it was still expected to vote before the end of this legislative semester. But in the assessment of congressmen, the issue should only be discussed again after the recess. The diagnosis is that the climate in Congress worsened for any deal of dealing with the announcement of tariffs against Brazilian products by the president of Donald Trump and also for the pressures by the president against the Supreme Court (STF).

In addition, on Monday (14), the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) filed a request for conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro and 7 others accused of leading the coup plot. By PGR’s request, Bolsonaro may pay more than 40 years in prison.

In the document, the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, states that the former president “figures as leader” of the coup criminal organization and is the “main articulator, greatest beneficiary and author of the most serious executory acts focused on the rupture of the Democratic Rule of Law”.

Gonet also adds that Bolsonaro, “in the exercise of the highest position of the Republic, instrumentalized the state apparatus and operated, intentional, persistent scheme of attack on public institutions and succession process.”

Even before PGR’s final concussions, left-wing leaders in the House began to charge legal measures against the former president and his son, Eduardo Bolsonaro, due to US pressures.

The PT National Directory, for example, filed in the Supreme Court, a request to revoke the mandate of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, as the parliamentarian went to the United States to articulate economic sanctions against Brazil, he himself published on social networks.

According to the PT’s request, Eduardo’s coup articulations contributed to the taxation of 50% of Brazilian products and it is unacceptable that a Brazilian deputy will continue in office after negotiating sanctions against his own country.

PT leader in the House, Lindbergh Farias, also filed a request in the Supreme. In this case, asking Jair Bolsonaro and Flávio Bolsonaro to be included in the list of investigated for coercion crimes in the course of the process, obstruction of justice, attack on freedom of magistrate, attack on national sovereignty, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and criminal association.

The document also calls for Eduardo Bolsonaro’s pre -trial detention, based on the new elements that demonstrate his central role in the articulation of international commercial pressures.

In addition, federal deputies Camila Jara (PT-MS), Dorinaldo Malafaia (PDT-AP), Duarte Jr (PSB-MA) and Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) filed a PGR representation against Jair Bolsonaro and Eduardo Bolsonaro for possible military crimes and actions that endanger national sovereignty.

The complaint points out that the two acted in the articulation of international sanctions against Brazil, culminating in the announcement of 50% rates on Brazilian products by former US President Donald Trump.
