Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said on Tuesday that he intervened to end the public dispute between son Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans-SP), on how to deal with the tariff imposed by the United States government to Brazilian products.
According to Bolsonaro, the impasse was resolved “with a conversation” and there is no reason to share the political group.
“I talked to Eduardo and Tarcisio, put a stone on this subject. We can’t divide ourselves. Tarcisio is a great manager,” the former president said in an interview with Poder360.

He said he supported the Governor’s diplomatic effort, in charge of US embassy business, to discuss alternatives to the 50% taxation that comes into force on August 1.
Bolsonaro also denied any family participation in the Trump administration’s decision. According to him, there was no lobby or direct political articulation, and both he and Eduardo are against the measure.
“If I were president, I would have solved, along the lines of Argentina. What Trump seeks is parity. Eduardo had no participation in it and no one is celebrating. I would like to talk to Trump, yes,” he said. “But I don’t bind my amnesty to the commercial issue.”

Despite the pacification defended by Bolsonaro, Eduardo, who currently lives in the US, criticized Tarcisio in an interview with Globo. “Intelligence was lacking in Tarcisio and respect for me. He tries to negotiate with sixth -level diplomats without consulting us. And worse, without consulting Jair Bolsonaro. We don’t know how the Supreme Court can play a request for him to go to the US.”

Tarcisio would also have sought ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) to and dialogue directly with Donald Trump. The initiative was publicly supported by Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in the Senate.
“If Lula has no capacity, he could ask Alexandre de Moraes to return his passport to Bolsonaro, which he goes there and resolves,” said the senator.

The proposal, however, has not yet been formalized. The former president continues with a passport retained by order of the Supreme Court in the process that investigates the attempted coup d’état in 2022.
Tarcisio’s gesture, even in the midst of the pocket crisis, was interpreted by interlocutors as an attempt to assume protagonism in the external articulation.
