The new president of the PT, elected this July, said that “Brazil is not a pull from the United States.” Edinho argues that in this trade war with the US President, the country strengthens the formation of new trade relations with other countries. “Clearly, this diplomatic crisis also demonstrates that we have to strengthen our conception of commercial block formation and that we can also put the countries that defend democracy on the table, so that this practice of the Trump government is not normalized,” he said. Edinho once again said that Trump’s actions as an attempt to build a “Third World War” through economic measures.

The former mayor of Araraquara also pointed out, on Wednesday, 16, what should be the priorities of the PT from now on: the electoral political reform, the strengthening of parties, financing of the Unified Health System (SUS), climate change, the 6 × 1 work scale, the zero tariff in transport and public safety.

He emphasized this last theme. “It is urgent that we can deepen the public security debate. Society is saying that,” he said. For the party, Edinho wishes the formulation of a new statute, which discusses the renewal of militancy, mandate limit and base organization. The party says this year’s internal election, called the Direct Election (PED) process, was the largest in history, with approximately 550,000 members of affiliates throughout Brazil.

Edinho Silva left as a winner with 378 thousand, or 73.1% of the votes. The predominant trend of the party, building a new Brazil (CNB), was again triumphant with the thesis “defeating the far right and advancing in the construction of a new Brazil”. Edinho faced competition from the left to the left of the PT, such as the Secretary of Romanio Pereira International Relations (58,800 votes, 11.4%), former president of the acronym and federal deputy by São Paulo Rui Falcão (57.7 thousand votes, or 11.2%of the total) and the director at the Perseu Abramo Valter Pomar Foundation (22,500 votes, 4.4%).

On the 27th of this month, the PT will make the second round of voting to define the presidency of directories in the states of Paraná, Tocantins, Santa Catarina, Rondônia, and Rio Grande do Sul. There will also be a second round in municipalities. There was controversy during voting. Estadão revealed the case of a defeated plate in Bahia that denounces that dead voted at PED in Camaçari, in a case that should stop in court. There were also reports of mass affiliations, accusations of coup and new threats of judicialization.

“I believe there was no anomaly regarding other times, always in the political dispute, there are burrows of accusations,” said Senator Humberto Costa (PE), acting president of the PT during the holding of the PED. “It is obvious that in a process like this, it needs to be improved. Ensuring that everyone can participate is the main thing.”
