According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the trailer broke into the wrong way and collided with the first vehicle of a bus train. In the hit collective, 25 students, two drivers and one advisor were traveling. With the impact, the bus driver, three students and the trailer driver died at the scene. A passenger of the trailer was seriously injured.

Acre students also participate in the UNE National Congress, but, as found, were not in the train involved in the accident.

In a public note, the Journalism course at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), through the sensational athletic and the Elson Martins academic center, lamented the tragedy. “We received with sadness the news of the accident involving the UFPA Commission bus, which went towards the 60th UNE Congress. With a lot of pain, the sensational athletic and the Elson Martins academic center come together in mourning and extolled the memory of each of those who today had their lives interrupted, but will remain forever as part of the students’ struggle,” they said.

The UFAC Central Directorate of Students (DCE/UFAC) has also commented, manifesting regret and solidarity to the families of the victims and the academic community of UFPA. “Seeing lives interrupted on the way to a space of political and collective formation is deeply devastating. We reaffirm our commitment to the struggle for safe student travel conditions, the valorization of life and the right to dream and fight for a better country. That tragedies like this never again,” says the note.

Authorities continue to investigate the causes of the accident.
