People with severe mites allergy should be careful on holiday when eating. A crossed allergic reaction may occur when consuming shrimp or mussels. This was pointed out by clinical immunologist and allergiologist Jaroslava Orosová, who is also president of the Association of Outpatient Providers. It warns that the cross -reaction may arise from several combinations.
“Some crossed reactions can be very serious, so they do not need to be underestimated. A patient with allergy to mites may also respond to molluscs such as shrimp or mussels. Crossed allergies are most commonly found between pollen and food. For example, people allergic to birch can also respond to apples or hazelnuts, ” The doctor approached.
According to her, the cross -wing of the insect is not excluded. “If someone is allergic to poison bee, a sharp reaction can also cause axis, so it is necessary to think of a well -equipped first aid kit, or a personal emergency package,” She added an expert.
As she said, the main manifestation of the crossed allergy between pollen and food is oral allergic syndrome. It appears after ingestion of raw fruits or vegetables. “Within a few minutes after a meal, the allergy sufferers will burn lips, climate, tongue, scratch it in the throat, sometimes a rash or swelling around the mouth occurs. However, more significant symptoms such as conjunctivitis, rhinitis, asthma, larynx or anaphylaxis may occur,” Orosova.
She explained that sometimes the occurrence of a cross -reaction is associated with the pollen season. “For example, some people cannot eat apples during the flowering period, but they have no difficulties outside of this period,” The doctor said. In other cases, an allergic reaction may occur after ingestion of raw or fresh food, but the heat treatment of allergenic effects will be canceled.
“While the patient may respond to the raw apple allergic, they may not have to apple compote. The exception is, for example, celery, parsley, spices, nuts and peanuts that contain heat more resistant allergens,” The expert approached. She pointed out that the reaction to vegetables and fruits could also be touched when peeling, slicing or grating.
