Eduardo says he amnesty to his father has not been approved, Trump can "play nuclear bomb" in Brazil

Licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) again pressured the Brazilian government and the Supreme Court (STF) for an amnesty to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In a publication on Wednesday (16), Eduardo said that if the measure does not advance, US President Donald Trump could impose new sanctions on Brazil-or, on the parliamentary’s words, “throw a nuclear bomb” in the country.

The metaphor used by Eduardo refers to the possibility of more economic retaliation, in addition to the 50% rate on Brazilian products already announced by Trump. The measure begins to apply on August 1 and was justified by Washington in response to the processes faced by Bolsonaro in Brazil.

“No. President @realdonaldtrump did not play a nuclear bomb in Brazil-yet,” Eduardo wrote on a social network, sharing a video of commentator Paulo Figueiredo, an ally of pockets in the US and grandson of former dictator João Figueiredo.

In the video, Paulo Figueiredo states that he and Eduardo are committed to boycotting “any attempt at conversation here in the United States that does not go through a broad, general and unrestricted amnesty.”

“With the difference that one is the son of the former president and the other already enjoys a huge credibility inside,” he said, referring to himself.

Figueiredo adds that the two would be at that time in a meeting with representatives of the US State Department. “Assuming that our agenda occurs as planned, we are at this time within the State Department in a meeting. With the high level. Which, by the way, invited us,” he said, without proof or details.

Parallel strategy

The movement led by Eduardo Bolsonaro occurs while the Brazilian government is trying to diplomatic approach with US authorities and business sectors to contain the effects of tariffs. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), and Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) lead conversations in Brazil and with interlocutors in the US.

Eduardo’s strategy and allies is seen as an effort to empty any institutional solution to the commercial impasse, transforming the tariff issue into an instrument of pressure for judicial forgiveness to Bolsonaro, who is a defendant in action for a coup attempt.

The group tries to maintain relevance with the pocket base, despite the growing political isolation. The offensive also aims at the dispute for the presidential candidacy of 2026, with Eduardo seeking international protagonism in a moment of wear and tear of the former president.
