For two nights, families resident in the Military Talude neighborhood, in the municipality of Loures, whose houses were sent to demolish, sleep in tents or in the open, according to a municipal deputy.
The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) confirms, on Wednesday, that it opened an inquiry into the process of demolition of precarious houses in the neighborhood of Military Talude, in Loures, Lisbon district, ordered by the local chamber.
“Following the information released in recent days by the media, the Public Prosecutor of the District of Lisbon Norte decided to open an inquiry,” said PGR’s official source.
The opening of the inquiry emerges after the author of the Housing Bases Act, Helena Roseta, admitted to the Lusa agency to make a complaint to the prosecutor against the Chamber of Loures, for “abuse of power” in the demolition operations of precarious houses in the neighborhood of Military Talude.
A Chamber of Loures, presided by socialist Ricardo Leão, began on Monday a demolition operation of 64 precarious dwellings in the military slope, where 161 people live, including children and the elderly.
That day 51 precarious houses were demolished, which totaled four more on Tuesday, but, however, the operation was suspended after the Lisbon Administrative Court accepted a precautionary action filed by a lawyer representing 14 neighborhood residents and decreed the provisional suspension of demolitions.
The demolition of 55 precarious dwellings was made without any housing alternative, and the local authority announced on Tuesday that one of the families of the military slope “was sent to a host center” and two “for a hotel unit”.
In addition, the Camaario Executive assured that the possibility of the House was presented to ensure the payment of one month of security and another of income, “as support for the lease in the housing market”.
