The Chairman of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Richard Raši (Voice-SD) hopes that the next coalition council will also address the topic of the missing judge at the Constitutional Court (ÚS) SR. He said it for TASR. He announced that he would announce the election of candidates in parliament after they agree in the coalition.
“We have one unoccupied member at the ÚS SR and in 2026 the mandate of another member ends, so we will be released another place. (…) We will write the choice as soon as the agreement is on behalf. It has happened twice that the choice was announced and ended unsuccessfully. There is no point in listing it just to write it out. I believe that the Coalition Council that will meet in late summer will deal with it, ” told TASR.
At the same time, Raši confirmed that he also talked about the situation with the chairman of the ÚS Ivan Fiačan and informed about the coalition partners. At the same time, he announced that if Fiača wants to speak in the plenary of Parliament, he would allow it. “I fully understand his request. The Constitutional Court should have 13 members,” added.
The place of the judge of the ÚS was released in September 2023, when Jana Laššáková resigned. By default, Parliament chooses twice the necessary number, so it has a pair of candidates. One of them is chosen by the President of the Slovak Republic and appoints him as a constitutional judge. So far, the National Council of the Slovak Republic has not repeatedly elected any candidate.
