António Filipe officially presented his candidacy for the 2026 presidential elections, with the support of the PCP, but stressing that it is a suprapartisan candidacy
In an interview with SIC Notícias, he stressed that he is not reviewed in the “centrão” candidates, such as António José Seguro and Luís Marques Mendes, and defends a President of the Moderate Republic, who does not extract his skills. Filipe highlighted the importance of presidential role as guaranteeing the Constitution and institutional arbitrator, at a time when the right controls all the organs of sovereignty. In debate with the panel, the candidate criticizes the performance of the current president, highlights the urgency of responses to housing and NHS, and ensures: “My candidacy is for all Portuguese, not just for the PCP.” The discussion also involves the political crisis, the war in Ukraine and the impact of immigration policies.
