The national defense industry sells to about 140 countries and represents about 3.58% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product)
Exports of defense products and services reached US $ 1.31 billion in the 1st semester of 2025. The index represents 73.6% of the record reached in 2024, when the sector registered a figure of US $ 1.78 billion, the best result of the last 11 years.
Currently, the national defense industry sells to about 140 countries on all continents, with 34% of exports to aircraft, their pieces and parts. The defense sector represents 3.58% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and creates 2.9 million direct and indirect jobs.
According to the Secretary of Defense Products of the Ministry of Defense, Heraldo Luiz Rodrigues, the result is a reflection of an increasingly competitive sector, as well as the constant search for autonomy and business opportunities inside and outside the country.
“We play a key role in helping to export defense products, which encompasses the necessary technological development for products to be state -of -the -art, financing and insurance and commercial and advertising aid for the product base industrial base.”said Rodrigues.
TECHNOLOGY
Next year, Brazil expects to reach 55% of technology domain such as radars, satellites and rockets – items used in strategic projects of the Armed Forces. Currently, this index is 42%.
By 2033, this level is expected to reach 75%, which will allow autonomy in the development of research projects of interest to the defense.
Projections for the next 8 years were released by Defense Minister José Mucio Monteiro during a launch event of Mission 6 of the NIB Program (Nova Indústria Brasil) in February.
The self -sufficiency regarding technologies of defense interest may be a booster of exports.
“Brazilian companies have very large installed capacity and products with very high quality recognition. This makes marketing abroad tend to grow ”declared Rodrigues.
“We have already a good result in 2025. Indexes indicate that our exports are growing at a pace suitable for maintaining our defense industrial base so that it is strong and with the capacity to support our Armed Forces.”these.
