There are minor tricks that increase the chances of your suitcase to be the first to appear on the rolling rug after a flight. According to Daily Express, an former airport employee revealed that dispatching the bag last, asking to deliver it at the boarding door or using a “fragile” tag can make all the difference.
Dispatching later may be an advantage
Waiting for luggage after a long flight can be one of the least pleasant parts of the trip, according to the above source.
While some passengers quickly leave the airport, others remain waiting, with their eyes fixed on the treadmill. However, the way the suitcase is delivered before departure can determine when it will be returned to the destination.
Thomas Lo Sciuto, a former worker at a regional airport in the United States, explained that the moment of check-in influences the outgoing order of the bags. He described, quoted by the same source, dispatching the luggage later can be advantageous. This is because the bags are placed in the strollers in order and the latter to enter are the first to leave.
Deliver the suitcase to the boarding door
In addition to this strategy, the former employee argues that delivering the suitcase at the boarding door can help. The practice, known as “Gate Check”, is often used when there is a lack of space in the upper compartments of the cabin. In these situations, the passenger delivers the suitcase even before entering the plane and receives it on arrival, often at the door of the aircraft or quickly in the collection zone.
“The best method to ensure that the suitcase comes quickly is to ask the counter with sympathy to dispatch it in the departure door,” the former worker suggested by the above-mentioned source. However, it warned that this option implies restrictions. Since the suitcase follows the passenger to safety control, it cannot contain liquids or prohibited objects.
“Fragile” label
There is yet another simple method that can accelerate the process: use a “fragile” label. According to, this type of luggage is often carried last, more carefully, and unloaded as soon as the plane land. This causes it to appear among the first in the rolling rug.
The label can be requested for free at the airport counters. However, it is to avoid including the address in the luggage label. Otherwise, a potential thief may realize that the house is unoccupied and take the opportunity to rob the property.
Even with these strategies, the luggage delivery process may vary depending on the airport, the airline or the way the plane is unloaded. Still, applying these little tricks can save time and help start the trip on the right foot.
