The polarization between Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL) continues to structure the Brazilian political imagination. GENIAL Survey/Quaest released on Thursday (17) shows that the country is still divided over which one poses the most risk: 44% say Fear another Bolsonaro return to the presidency, while 41% express fear of Lula’s continuity in office.
The numbers indicate stability in relation to previous surveys. In May, 45% feared Bolsonaro’s return, from 40% that pointed to fear of Lula’s permanence. In March, the rates were practically the same as the current: 44% and 41%, respectively.
The search margin of the research is two percentage points, which characterizes a technical draw between the two options.

Among respondents, 7% claim to be afraid of Lula and Bolsonaro – an index that has been maintained since May. Those who do not fear any of the two add up to 3%, while 5% said they did not know or preferred not to answer.
The survey listened to 2,004 Brazilians 16 years or older, between July 10 and 14. The confidence level is 95%.
Lula reduces rejection
The data reinforces a pattern detected in other recent polls: although Lula has recovered ground since the beginning of the year – with a drop in disapproval and a slight advance in supporting his reelection – it still faces a significant feeling of rejection and fear of the continuity of his government.
