The document was signed by Governor Gladson Cameli and establishes the Secretary of State for Health (Sesacre) as responsible for coordinating confrontation actions. The measure provides for priority in meeting the demands of Sesacre by the state administration bodies and entities.
According to the decree, the adoption of urgent administrative measures is authorized, including the necessary expenses to maintain or restore the ability to respond from the public power. Sesacre may also edit complementary rules for the confrontation of the emergency.
The decision is based on epidemiological data that point to a global reemergence of measles. In 2024, more than 359,000 cases were confirmed in 184 countries. As early as 2025, by early June, more than 88,000 cases had been confirmed in 168 countries, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In the Americas, there was an increase of 29 times in the number of cases compared to the same period last year.
The proximity to Bolivia, a country that has decreed a national emergency due to the advancement of the disease, is also pointed out as a risk factor. In the state of Acre, vaccination coverage is below 95% recommended, with a high rate of abandonment of the vaccination scheme, which contributes to the vulnerability of the population.
The decree highlights the change in the epidemiological profile of the disease, with increased cases between adolescents and young adults, indicating failures or absence of immunization in childhood.
