The work “Algarve – a culinary trip”, distinguished with seven international awards and sold out in countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland in less than eight months, will now be published in bilingual editions (Portuguese and English). The book is a deep tribute to the Algarve, with the participation of known chef Noélia Jerónimo, born in Tavira, who signs 30 of the recipes included.
It is a book that plunges into the heart of the Algarve, crossing life stories, traditional recipes, natural landscapes and the vast cultural heritage of the southern region of Portugal.
The chef’s presence gives the publication an “authentic, emotional and deeply linked to the roots of the Algarve”, as the publisher points out. Noélia Jerónimo is part of a range of protagonists who give voice to the diversity and identity of the region.

With 456 pages, the work features over 300 photographs and 25 real stories, driving the reader by a genuine Algarve. From Aljezur to Vila Real de Santo António, passing through places such as Monchique, Tavira, Olhão, Loulé, Lagos, Lagoa, Silves and Portimão, communities and crafts are portrayed-Marristers, Fishermen, Surfers, Artisans, Vinicultors and Urban Artists-in an intimate and inspiring record.
According to Marianne Salentin-Träger, editor of the publication, “every story, every face, each recipe is a celebration of the authenticity of this land.” It also adds: “It is not just a book on gastronomy, it is a tribute to the soul of a region and the people who live in it.”
With text by journalist Rita Henss, photography by Markus Bassler and Anja Jahn, and artistic direction by Oliver Hick-Schulz, the publication proposes as a declaration of love to the Algarve. Structured in five chapters – water, earth, soul, knowledge and taste – the book invites the reader to discover the Algarve territory through their people, their products and the landscape that surrounds them.
Between figs and salt flower, between steaming cataplanas and hand -worked cork, the book travels through markets, Thursdays and seafood, making known recipes and places with history. The narrative is illustrated with images that capture the Atlantic Light and the gestures of those who live on the earth and the sea with respect and dedication.
Chef Noélia Jerónimo is one of the central names of the work. About his participation, he states: “This book is much more than a collection of recipes. It is the living expression of our roots, the flavors of childhood and respect for the origin. I put in him all my soul, as if each dish told a story that deserves to be shared and proven.” He adds: “I always worked to be happy to make people happy.”
In addition to Tavira’s chef’s recipes, the book also includes 40 recipes and stories of other unavoidable names of regional cuisine, such as João Marreiros, Hans Neuner, Jose Pinheiro, Nélia Nunes, Vasco Prudêncio, Ana Fonseca and Isabel Ramos, among others. All together, make up a mosaic that translates the cultural and gastronomic plurality of the Algarve.
The first edition was sponsored by Annabell Pohl, who, along with his family, has a close relationship with the Algarve for over three decades.
The Portuguese and English edition, in physical and limited format, will be launched on September 29, 2025 and will be available at selected points of sale. The pre-sale is already active through the site, with a special launch price of 45 euros.
