The action was conducted by Elissandra Rocha, head of the Procon Consumption Education sector in the Juruá Valley. According to her, the choice of school recess period is strategic, as it is at this time that many young people take advantage of their free days to play with kites in open areas, increasing the risk of serious accidents.

“It is precisely now that students are going on vacation, when they get freer and end up exposing themselves in open places to let out kites. The campaign focuses on guiding and preventing,” explained Elissandra.

In addition to the educational character, the campaign also includes local commerce inspection actions. According to Procon’s chief inspection in Juruá, Paulo Henrique Rocha, the sale, purchase or use of cerol, Chilean line or Thai line is prohibited by state law. He stressed that those who fail to comply with the legislation can be punished with fines, cancellation of business license and other penalties.

“Procon acts on both educational and trade inspection. Cerol use is a crime. We want to play with kites to continue, but safely, without putting lives at risk,” he said.

The campaign has the support of several institutions, such as the Public Prosecution Service, the Military Police, the Detran and the Secretariat of Education. The initiative should be taken to other schools in Cruzeiro do Sul and neighboring municipalities of the Juruá Valley, with the message that safety and fun are not opposite, can and should go together.
