GENIAL Survey/Quaest released on Wednesday (16) points out that 85% of Brazilians disapprove of the increase in the number of federal deputies, from 513 to 531 parliamentarians.

Another 9% approve the increase, while 6% do not know how to evaluate the measure or did not respond to the survey.

Quaest research has heard 2,004 Brazilians in person 16 and over July 10 and 14. The margin of error of the global survey data is two points for more or less, and the confidence level is 95%.

Also according to the survey, 53% of Brazilians are aware of the proposal that aims to increase the number of parliamentarians in the House. Another 44% do not have and 3%, do not know how to say or did not respond.

Segmented data (gender, age, education, yields, religion, region where it lives, among others) show that the increase in the number of deputies is mostly rejected among all groups surveyed.

The lowest rejection rate of the proposal is among those who say they do not usually inform about politics (60%). It is also this group what is least aware of the discussions about the agenda (72%).

This Wednesday ends the deadline for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) to decide if, which was appreciated – and approval – completed by Congress in June.

The proposal began to be processed in Parliament amid a deadline given by the Federal Supreme Court (STF): until June 30, Congress should review the number of parliamentarians by state in the House.

The review should take into account data from the latest population census. However, to prevent some states from losing vacancies in the House, Parliament chose to create new posts.
