Senate approves bill that increases salary of all military

Readjustment will cost R $ 3 billion to the public coffers in 2025 and R $ 5.3 billion in 2026; increase will be 9% for all armed forces categories

The Senate approved on Thursday (16.Jul.2025) the MP (Provisional Measure) No. 1,293 of 2025, which increases the remuneration of the military of the Armed Forces by 9%. The new values refer only to the monthly salaries. The vote was symbolic – when there is no nominal record of votes.

The measure by the Federal Government on March 27 and establishes the readjustment in two installments of 4.5%: one that has already entered into force in April and one that will be valid from January 2026.

The decision benefits all members of active, reserve and military pensioners. According to the government, the readjustment will cost R $ 3 billion to public coffers by 2025 and R $ 5.3 billion in 2026. The proposal results from negotiations made in 2024 between the Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro, and the president (PT).

Provisional measures are edited by the President of the Republic and have immediate law. To become a law definitively, they need to be passed by Congress within 120 days. The MP approved in the House would be valid on August 8.

The military received the last readjustment in 2023. During the former president’s government (PL), there was a restructuring of military careers that resulted in increases in bonuses that reached 150%, according to government technicians. This previous adjustment was implemented in 4 installments from 2020, as part of the reform of the Armed Forces Social Security System.
