Approximately 50 people lost their lives or suffered injuries in a fire that broke out on Wednesday evening in a shopping center in the city of Kút in the east of Iraq. According to AFP and Reuters, TASR informs about this on Thursday’s statements of local authorities or local media reports.
“The number of victims of a tragic fire in a large shopping center is approximately 50 martyrs and injured,” said Muhammad Mijáhi, head of the Governorate Wásit, for Iraqi news agency Ina.
A fire in the Hyper Mall shopping center broke out on Wednesday evening, while at 4.00 am the ambulances were transported to the local hospital. AFP newsletter reported that the center was open only five days ago.
According to the initial reports, a fire arose on its first floor. In the meantime, the video recordings that have spread on social networks capture how the flames engulfed this five -story building, while the firefighters tried to get them under control.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but the Governor said that the initial results of the investigation would be announced within 48 hours. “We brought lawsuits to the owner of the building and the shopping center,” he added. He also declared a three -day sadness in the governor.
