To CNN, Lula says that Trump needs to respect Brazil’s sovereignty

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told CNN This Thursday (17) that US President Donald Trump needs to respect the sovereignty of Brazil.

“This is a country that deserves respect. And President Trump needs to respect the sovereignty of this country. The sovereignty of the Supreme Court, the sovereignty of the legislative body, the executive branch, as well as I respect the sovereignty of the United States,” Lula said in an exclusive interview with the anchor of the anchor CNN Iinternational Christiane Amanpour.

“It is important to remember that tariffs will also create problems for the United States,” he added.

The speech is made after Trump announces the imposition of a 50% rate against all Brazilian products. In the document on the fee, the US president cited the trial against former President Jair Bolsonaro as one of the justifications for the measure.

In addition, he demanded an investigation against alleged illegal trade practices in Brazil. The United States should aim at this investigation, one of the most famous in São Paulo.
