“We can’t have President Trump forget that he was elected to govern the United States, and not to be the emperor of the world. It would be much better to establish a negotiation first, and then achieve a possible deal, because we are two countries that we have good relations for 200 years,” said Lula.
According to Lula, both the fare and the way Trump used to announce were surprises for the Brazilian government. The Brazilian president also said that a “little multilateralism in the mind” is missing.
The president again said that Trump’s statement that the United States suffer losses in trade with the United States is false. Lula also told Amanpour that since May, the Brazilian government has sent proposals to the White House, but was “surprised” to see that the letter of the American leader did not mention the alternatives mentioned by the petista.
Lula said Brazil is ready to negotiate the tariff imposed by Trump, but that the country is willing to send answers to Washington. The petista again stated that he intends to resort to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and apply the economic reciprocity law, recently regulated by the Planalto.
Bolsonaro
The Brazilian president also said that there was never an attempt to coup such as planned by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“He is not being tried personally, he is being tried by the acts that tried to organize a coup. He secretly threatened death, planned the death of the vice president, mine and that of a Federal Supreme Court minister,” Lula said.
Lula said he believed that Bolsonaro will be convicted by the Supreme Court (STF) and defended the ministers of the Attacks of the President of the United States, Donald Trump. According to Lula, the members of the Court exist to defend the Constitution.
Lula also said that the fact that Bolsonaro was an opponent is not the motivation to believe that he tried to apply a blow. “Those who accused Bolsonaro was the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and the Supreme Court will judge,” he said.

Attacking Bolsonaro, the president also told Amanpour that he lost three presidential elections (1989, 1994 and 1998) and never “raised a problem.”
Answer to Trump’s letter

“I don’t consider myself an emperor to make a decision and publish it in a newspaper,” said Lula. “When I read Trump’s letter, I thought it was fake news. When I saw the letter in the media I thought it was a real letter signed by President Trump.”
Lula added that Brazil is a “historical ally” of the United States and values economic traditions between countries, but will not “accept impositions.”
