The president (PT) said on Thursday (17) that “it is not a gringo that will order this President of the Republic.” The message A (USA) took place in a speech during the 60th Conune (Congress of the National Students Union), at UFG (Federal University of Goiás), in Goiânia.
In the speech of improvisation to students, Lula recalled his career of strikes and negotiations in the union struggle and stated to be sure that the US president “never negotiated 10%” of what he negotiated in his life.
“We do not accept the president’s idea by saying that if he does not free Bolsonaro, he will tax at 50%. Let’s answer in the most civilized way possible and how a Democrat responds,” said Lula.
Since the announcement of US surcharge to Brazil, both the president and the government team have reacted to the measure. In interviews, Lula has confronted Trump’s interference, including reciprocal tax threats.
The measure, however, should not be adopted, as the government is in dialogue with the business sectors that should be affected in search of an alternative.
According to government members and representatives of industry sectors, a commercial response of the same dimension as Trump’s imposed could further impair the Brazilian economy. The tariff, according to Trump, is valid on August 1st.
In addition, Lula has directly criticized the former president ()-quoted in the American president’s letter as a “persecuted” by the Brazilian justice-and (PL-SP), a licensed federal deputy and son of the former president who has supported the measures of the American.
Prior to Lula’s speech, also this Thursday, for Trump’s decision to surpass Brazil. The former president still thanked God for the election of the ally in the US and blamed the Lula administration for the commercial and political obstacle with the Americans.
The lawsuits faced by Bolsonaro in the Federal Supreme Court were used as an argument by Trump to promote commercial retaliation to Brazil, because, according to him, the Brazilian judiciary is injuring the country’s freedom of expression.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin met with industry and agribusiness sectors to discuss reaction measures. The meetings should continue to happen in the coming days.
In reaction, the government also sent one with US response charges for tariff impositions.
At this Thursday event, in Goiânia, students chanting screams against Trump and Bolsonaro, as well as praise for the sovereignty of Latin America. Among them, the chorus of “without amnesty and without forgiveness, I want to see Bolsonaro in prison.”
Present were the ministers Rui Costa (Civil House), Alexandre Padilha (Health), Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat), Camilo Santana (Education), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology) and Margareth Menezes (Culture).
Ministers reinforced the discourse in favor of tax exemption for the poor and taxation of the richest, as well as mentions to the defense of Brazilian sovereignty.
Outside the auditorium, there were punctual reports of fights among Congress participants and Bolsonaro supporters.
