The president (PT) referred to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and his son, licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) as traitors for support for President Donald Trump, who announced a 50% surcharge to Brazil.
The speech occurred during the 60th Congress of UNE (National Students Union), in Goiânia. Lula commented that Trump’s letter – which related the fare to a supposed persecution of Bolsonaro – did not bring points for negotiation and mentioned Eduardo’s performance in the US in favor of his father.
“He now has to be treated by us as the traitors of the 20th and 21st century of this country,” he said.
“He who is ashamed, hides from his cowardice and let this country alone live in peace. Because they have had no concern about the damage that this taxation will bring to the Brazilian people, which will bring industry, agriculture, services, people’s salary, no concern,” he said.
Lula gave a speech full of criticism and what he called interference in Brazilian internal processes.
Congress takes place from July 16 to 20 and is expected to receive more than 10,000 students from all over the country. The auditorium received about 3,000 people on Thursday, according to UNE.
