The Acre Penitentiary System recorded 19 detainees of detainees between January and June this year, according to data released by the Criminal Analysis Observatory of the Acre Public Prosecution Service (MPAC). The causes of deaths have not yet been officially detailed.

According to the survey, May was the most violent month, with six deaths recorded. Already January, February, April and June they counted two deaths each month. March presented five occurrences in the period. MPAC reported that data include both prisoners in physical cells and those who meet an electronic monitoring.
Compared to the same period last year, there was a 17% reduction in the number of deaths. In 2024, 23 deaths were accounted for in the Acre prison system in the first half.

Throughout last year, Acre recorded 42 prisoners deaths. Of these cases, 19 were murders, 11 resulted from natural causes, six were suicides and three occurred due to accidents. Three other deaths were attributed to unknown causes.
Currently, more than 8,300 people are in custody in the Acre Prison System. Of this total, about 4.2 thousand fulfill closed sentence, 2,100 in semi -open regime and 1,900 remain in a provisional situation.
