SAO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS)-The federal promoter of Manhattan that worked, Maurene Comey, was fired on Wednesday (16) by the US government. The information was revealed by the New York Times, based on the report of close people.

Reason for dismissal is uncertain. According to local press, Maurene was informed of the dismissal by letter. The document cites an article from the US Constitution that guarantees the president the power to make such decisions.

It is not clear, therefore, if the resignation took place because of the prosecutor’s performance in the Epstein case. Maurene Comey also served as a prosecutor in the judgment of Sean Combs music tycoon, known as Diddy, who was acquitted of the most serious accusations earlier this month.

Judgment of sexual criminal Jeffrey Epstein is involved in conspiracy theories. During the election campaign, US President Donald Trump promised to disclose the investigation records if elected.

US Department of Justice and the FBI, however, denied the existence of the “Epstein list” and confirmed that the cause of the sexual criminal’s death was suicide. The alleged list would gather the name of public people related to the entrepreneur and Trump himself would be in her. Supporters of the president still question whether the businessman was murdered in prison.

While people aligned with Trump question setback, he tries to get away from the case. The day before yesterday, the president countered criticism of the government for not disclosing the files related to the case: “He has been dead for a long time. … I really don’t understand what is the interest or fascination,” he said.

Prosecutor would be a scapegoat

Maurene was positioned against the disclosure of the files. Posture is considered common in sensitive cases, such as those involving victims of sexual violence. The US Department of Justice could even make public investigation records.

Prosecutor was being used as a scapegoat, while government tries to overcome the scandal, according to the New York Times. The dismissal of prosecutors is not common, although not new to the Trump administration.

Former FBI director, Maurene’s father was fired in the 1st Trump administration

James Comey and Donald Trump are longtime disaffected. The then FBI director was disconnected from the agency in May 2017, while leading a criminal investigation to ascertain whether Trump’s advisers conspired with the Russian government to influence the result of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump denies. At the time, the US President justified the resignation for Comey’s performance in the investigation into the use of a private email server by Hillary Clinton during his administration as Secretary of State, from 2009 to 2013. The case came to light in 2015 amid the presidential campaign in which Clinton and Trump were rivals.

Maurene’s enigmatic post led government to investigate him. Comey posted a photo on Instagram in May this year of shells on a beach with the inscription “86 47”. According to Trump, the publication was a request for murder. Supporters of the president state that “86” is an old slang to fire or remove, while Trump is the 47th US President.

More recently, president stated, without evidence, that Epstein-related files were forged by the former FBI director. According to CNN, a person familiar with the promoter’s resignation said that the fact that she was a Comey would have resigned, as her father is “constantly attacking the administration.”

Understand the Epstein case

Epstein was first arrested in 2008 when he was sentenced to 13 months in prison. At the time, the parents of a 14 -year -old girl reported to the police that the businessman had sexually abused the girl in his mansion.

Other possible victims were discovered and photos of girls were found at his house.

Businessman got rid of taking life imprisonment. The billionaire closed a controversial agreement that delivered him from being imprisoned for the rest of his life and made him registered on the federal list of sexual criminals. As a prisoner, he could go out to work six days a week.

Accused of sex trafficking, Epstein was arrested again in 2019. He was accused of trafficking dozens of girls, exploring them and abusing them sexually. From this case, the billionaire declared himself innocent and always denied the accusations. After a month in jail at age 66, he was found dead in the cell.

Many of these young women have been enticed by socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, a former fiancee and friend of Epstein. She was arrested in 2020 and sentenced to spend 20 years in prison.
