Pornography is present in the lives of many women. But not everything is about sex.
It is a fact that many women, like many men, consume pornography. According to Pornhub data – one, if not the largest pornography in the world – about 29% of their users in 2023 were women.
Studies on female consumption of pornography, which involve interviews with various women, show that there is a voluntary search for adult content, which is however motivated by different reasons than men, and much more diverse.
One of these studies, quoted by, interviewed about 30 women with an average ages of 30 years, residents of the United Kingdom and Greece. The sample included women with different sexual guidelines, married, single or dating. Most described pornography as Something positive In their lives, not only for sexual reasons, but also for emotional, psychological and social reasons.
Among the most common motivations was the desire to increase sexual pleasure and self -knowledge. Many women mentioned that pornography helped intensify excitement, facilitate masturbation and explore fantasies that may not consider it otherwise.
“He taught me to have better oral sex,” “When I started going out with women, I saw pornography to learn about lesbian sex,” “help me learn what I like or don’t like,” were some answers.
Interestingly, pornography is also consumed for reasons not directly linked to sex. Some participants described it as a relaxation, Stress relief or simply entertainment:
“It’s a way of relaxing, like a kind of meditation” or “if you are upset, I see a lot of pornography,” said other women involved in the study.
Another reason pointed to the consumption of pornography was the emotional preparation and mental for sexual encounters. Seeing pornography made some women feel more like having relationships with partners, more willing to experience new things and more comfortable communicating preferences.
Other women reported that exposure to different female bodies in pornography had a positive effect on their self -image. Seeing varied representations-large bodies, small breasts-some reported feeling more accepted and confident.
But of course, the positive effect was not unanimous. Some women pointed out that pornography can reinforce unrealistic beauty standards and generate feelings of inadequacy, especially due to predominance of white, blond and thin bodies.
