Vice-President declares that Judiciary is unrelated to commercial tariffs and proposes to expand trade relations with the United States
The vice president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, said on Thursday (17.Jul.2025) that actions in court cannot be used to justify commercial tariffs. To journalists, stated that the subjects “They have no nexus” each other.
The comment came minutes after US President Donald Trump (Republican Party), that the judgment against (PL) stopped “immediately”.
The American had used Bolsonaro’s case as one of the justifications to charge 50% of Brazilian imports from August 1, 2025. In this Thursday’s document, he talked about the matter again.

Bolsonaro is accused of involvement in an attempted coup d’état in 2022. He became a defendant on March 26. The trial is in the Federal Supreme Court.
The 50% tariff established by Trump makes products from Brazil in the US market, with the potential to reduce the competitiveness of Brazilian exporters.
The rate is additional to others already existing and was determined by the US government.
Alckmin wants to negotiate with the United States. He said he has not yet received an answer about Trump’s team. At the end of his speech to journalists, he signaled an intention to strengthen trade relations with Americans.
“We want to expand trade. We can have an even more ambitious goal between Brazil and the United States”he said when leaving the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) in Brasilia.
Alckmin will meet again with entrepreneurs and representatives of the sectors at 15h on Thursday (18.Jul). The meeting is within the work committee that deals with the theme.
