The government will pay an extraordinary supplement in September 2025 for pensioners with income up to 1,567.50 euros gross, says the ekonomist. The value will be unique and ranges from 100 to 200 euros, with the objective of relieving the effects of inflation and increased cost of living.
According to the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, this support covers all pensions within the established limit. The measure aims to support the most aged population, considered one of the groups most affected by the escalation of prices.
How much will the pensioners receive?
The supplement will have three levels:
- 200 euros for pensions up to 522.50 euros;
- 150 euros for pensions between 522.50 and 1,045 euros;
- 100 euros for pensions between 1,045 and 1,567.50 euros.
Payment will be made in a single installment during September.
Government confirms IRC descent by 2028
In addition to support for pensioners, the government has announced a phased IRC reduction. Company’s profit tax rate will go to 19% by 2026, 18% by 2027 and 17% in 2028.
This measure, according to the same source, aims to increase the competitiveness of Portuguese companies, attract investment and boost economic growth. Luís Montenegro stressed that this is a medium -term strategy to reinforce business fabric.

Another expected change, according to, is the increase in the age of reform from 2026. The executive ensures that these measures arise to respond to the needs of the country without questioning the sustainability of public accounts.
However, the government faces the challenge of balanced the reduction of tax revenue from companies with the cost of supplementing pensioners, ensuring the maintenance of state services.
