The Ukraine Information Services Cyber Unit has carried out an attack on the Russian Giant Giant Network Infrastructure

Ukrainian secret services have attacked Gazprom’s network infrastructure, the Russian gas giant, which is involved in supporting the war against Ukraine.

According to sources from the Ukraine (HUR) information sevices in the Cyberc Cyber unit, the attack destroyed a significant amount of databases and special software was installed, causing serious damage to the Russian company.

Gazprom is Russia’s largest state -owned energy company, controlling the extraction, transportation and export of natural gas. It plays a key role in the Russian economy, contributing to a significant part of state revenues – including the financing of the ongoing war against Ukraine.

As the Kyiv Post explains, in addition to the economic impact, Gazprom is also a fundamental geopolitical instrument, with Kremlin historically using gas supply to exercise pressure on European countries and former Soviet states.

What are the damage caused by this attack?

According to the source of Uranian secret services, access to the GAZPROM information system has been deactivated to around 20,000 system administrators and software was installed on GAZPROM servers that will destroy the company’s information system data.

Specifically the following elements were destroyed:

  • GAZPROM Information System Security Copies;
  • Databases of about 390 subsidiaries and branches, including Gazprom Tele Energo, Gazprom Obl Energo, Gazprom Energozbyt and hundreds of other structures;
  • 1C server cluster (10 high performance machines) along with all files – contracts, orders, directives, etc. Auxiliary Systems Data – including data protection systems, server control, administration;
  • Analytical databases of conduct, valves, sensors, pumps, as well as SCADA system servers responsible for the management of technical infrastructure;
  • Operating systems on available servers and damaged BIOS – due to this fact, servers do not bind and physical intervention will be required to restore operation.

In addition to serious reputation losses, the attack will have caused significant technical and financial damage to the Russian gas monopoly.

“The degradation of Russian information systems for the Technological Middle Ages continues. We have congratulated the ‘cyberses’ Russians to this new feat and recommend that they gradually replace their rats and keyboards with hammers and tenants,” said Hur source to the newspaper.
