The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, said on Friday (18) that determined the revocation of the visa of the Supreme Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The US action occurs hours after the Federal Police operation against former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is with an electronic anklet, forbidden to access social networks and with restricted circulation.
Rubio wrote that President Donald Trump was clear in pointing out that US administration will take action against those responsible for an alleged “censorship” of freedom of expression in the United States.
By quoting Bolsonaro, the secretary of state claimed that the former president is the victim of a “witch hunt”, from Moraes’s initiative.
“The political witches of the Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes against Jair Bolsonaro has created such a comprehensive persecution and censorship complex that not only violates Brazilians’ basic rights, but also extends to reach Americans,” Rubio shared social networks.
“Therefore, I ordered the revocation of visas to Moraes and their allies in court, as well as their immediate family members, with immediate effect,” he added.
Operation against Bolsonaro
On Friday morning, the Federal Police served two search and seizure warrants at Bolsonaro’s residence in Brasilia.
The decision came from the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes, who also determined precautionary measures to the former president, such as use of an electronic anklet and ban on access to social networks.
Then the first class of the court formed a majority to keep the minister’s decision.
In the virtual plenary, there is no discussion. The ministers present the votes remotely in the STF system.
In a statement, the former president’s defense stated that he received with “surprise and outrage” the imposition of “severe” measures against him. According to lawyers, Bolsonaro has always complied with the determinations of the judiciary.
Judicial determinations
