The defense of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) released on Friday, 18, a new statement, after meeting the content of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the Supreme Court (STF), which authorized the fulfillment of search and seizure warrants and the application of precautionary measures against Bolsonaro.
The legal team calls the measures, including “serious” and says they were imposed “due to acts performed by third parties, a circumstance unpublished in Brazilian law”.
“The sentences highlighted as attacks on national sovereignty have never been said by Bolsonaro. And it does not seem to be fair or even reasonable that the sending of money for his son, daughter -in -law and grandchildren can be a reason to impose precautionary measures like these, especially since done before the facts now under investigation,” the lawyers add.
They also say that “it is noteworthy that, despite determining the night collection and the use of anklet, the decision of the Supreme Court does not use as its foundation any indication that can point a risk of escape.”
“It also causes a species that, among the precautionary measures, include the prohibition of talking or having any contact with his own son, a right as natural as sacred,” they complete, in reference to the prohibition of contact with licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), who is living in the United States with the family.
They also say that the final defense was not even presented in the case file. “Therefore, the President and his defense are awaiting a fair trial and based exclusively for the presumption of innocence, which must always govern any and all criminal proceedings.”
